It is a type of skin that presents greater activity of sebaceous glands, therefore it has an excessive amount of fat, forming external phase emulsions.
It may become limited only in adolescence, but in many cases it persists into adulthood with varying degrees of seborrhea. When sebum secretion is not excessive, it is called normal sebum or oily-prone. If it is excessive, it is called seborrheic sebum. There are also two subtypes: dehydrated oily skin and occluded sebum.
Characteristics of oily skin:
- Open pores.
- Shiny and sallow appearance due to the hyperkeratosis with which it is frequently associated.
- Smooth to the touch.
- Good degree of hydration.
- It has a tendency to develop comedones and impurities.
The causes of oily skin are constitutional, although it may be associated with the influence of androgens, which cause increased sebum secretion and kerosis, and is sometimes linked to an androgen-estrogen imbalance that may require medical treatment.
